LSBU provided us with an exhaustive list of features which they hoped could be incorporated into a bespoke intranet. It was clear from the outset that they wanted this software to house almost everything administrative that happened at the university. I began by taking that list and grouping them into categories of activity, seen below, separated by colour.
To create something so incredibly complex, realised needed a solution that was incredibly simple and elegant. I proposed that the intranet act as a portal, wherein users can type what they're looking to do, and acting like a smart search tool or digital assistant, the intranet would call up the feature the user wants. Creating the intranet as a portal, meant in theory that rather than replacing all their current systems, it would link and integrate with them, acting as an encompassing interface to which other functionality would plug in.
Organising the solution in this way meant that staff could get notifications for emails, phone calls, appointments, announcements and more, all in one place.
As well as wireframes for desktop, I scoped a mobile version too, proving that the concept could work on multiple devices and allowing staff to access it when away from their desks.
Working with the agency's designers, we created an attractive UI that adhered to the universities brand guidelines to visualise an exciting and modern looking product.
This work was presented to the university as part of a set of proposals and as part of a competitive tender.
